This article outlines how to create a process, to give you an understanding of the different setup options, the tabs in the Appraisal builder, and how you can fully customize your process.
To get started navigate to Admin > Appraisals.
Here you can create Appraisals either from scratch or using the Quick Start Appraisal.
Click Start from scratch to build your own process. The Appraisal builder will open and will show the following tabs:
Basic details
Grid evaluation
Progress
Templates
Advanced settings
1. Basic details
The Title is the name for your Appraisal process. It is visible for all stakeholders participating in the process. Each Appraisal process in your platform should have a unique title so you can differentiate various processes.
If you have multiple Appraisal cycles per year, it is good practice to add the respective year, quarter, etc. to the name to differentiate the processes per period.
The Header is a supplementary text that will appear under the title of a process to provide additional reference.
A Description can be added as reference for admins if additional context is needed. It will not be visible for any users without Admin rights.
2. Grid evaluation
A Grid matrix can be used to evaluate employees along two axes, placing them into different segments. A well-known tool for talent management is a 9-Box Grid, which is used to identify and group employees based on their performance and potential.
In the Grid evaluation tab, the Grid structure is determined and the parameters evaluated on the horizontal and vertical axes.
2.1 In the General settings on the left-hand sidebar, add the number of categories for each of the axes, e.g. 3x3 in the example of a 9-Box Grid. Then add the names of the two axes depending on the parameters that apply to your use case.
2.2 Select the ‘pencil’ icon in each grid box to give it a Name and connect it to a User Flow.
2.3 To edit the Rating descriptions, click on the ‘pencil’ icon next to the rating. Add a Title and Description for every rating. For example: Rating #1 – Low potential, Rating #2 – Medium potential, and Rating #3 – High potential.
3. Progress
This next part is essential in setting up your Appraisal. Progress is the actual design of your appraisal process, i.e. the Flow of Steps that relevant stakeholders need to complete.
You can have a single User Flow where all users must go through the same identical process. You also have the option to setup multiple User Flows within the same Appraisal process. This allows you to determine specific development paths depending on which development plan the user is on, e.g. Improvement Plan, Development Plan, Acceleration Plan.

4. Templates
Once all the Steps are created in the Appraisal process, the Template for each Template Step needs to be created. The template should contain any content that helps prepare your managers and employees to have quality conversations resulting in meaningful outcomes.
The Template can be created from scratch or you can chose and edit one of the best practice templates from the template overview, which become available in the library when the eloomi Quick Start Appraisal has been created.
To create a Template from scratch, these are the basic steps to get started:
Click Create New
Select Blank Template
Enter a Title and an optional Subtitle
Click Add new page
Now you can start to create the content of the template by adding different Components from the navigation panel on the left to a Section on the right.
5. Advanced settings
The final step in creating your Appraisal process is to set the Advanced Settings.
This concludes the general overview of the Performance Appraisal essentials and the first steps when setting up a process.
