Let’s take a look at how easy it is to create a course and export it from our authoring platform.

Create a course

As an author, when you log into your platform you get access to a template library that shows you some best practice course templates. The templates can be easily copied and customized to suit your needs.

You can create a new course or reuse a course from the template library. The template library appears in your course library under “All Courses” at the left side navigation panel.

The first step of creating a course is to click on the “Create Course” blue button on the top right corner of the “All Courses” page or you can edit an existing course from the template library.

Then add a course title and description.

To add pages to your course, simply write the title of the page and hit enter. Then you can add content, such as a lesson or a quiz, to the page after the title is defined.

To create a lesson, simply click the "Add Content" button then "Add Lesson" and it will take you to a blank page where you can populate with learning material.

Add blocks of content

Click on the blue cross on the left-hand side to add blocks of content to your page.

In our authoring tool, you can add blocks of text, image, media, and other formats to create your ideal lesson format.

After you have added a block, you can edit the block to have your custom content and styling. You can also either duplicate the block, move it down or delete it easily as well.

Add a text block

To create interactive courses, you can use various building blocks that enrich the courses and are easily customizable.

The text block has various options to choose from:

  • A simple paragraph with no heading

  • Paragraph with heading

  • Paragraph with subheading

  • Two-column paragraphs

  • Inline note

Add an image or media block

The image block options are:

  • A centered image

  • Full-width Image

  • Two-column image

  • Image with text

  • Text on image

To edit an image, simply click the "Edit" button on the right-hand side of the image to upload your image or use one from our free image library.

Free stock images and videos

eloomi Authoring also has a free stock media library with thousands of high-quality images and videos you can use to make your courses nice and engaging.

The media block options are:

  • Video - Limit of 100mb

  • Audio

  • File upload - here you can upload documents from your content repository or your local computer.

  • For this block, we support PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and text files.

Dividers and interactive buttons

To break up the course you have the option to add buttons or dividers.

You can also configure the button to grant access when all blocks are complete or just the block directly above it.

Interactive sorting cards

With the interactive block, you can add sorting cards to your course to enhance engagement with the learners.

Just click on the 'Edit' button on the block to change the values.

Knowledge check and Self-reflection blocks

Authors can create in-course quizzes as a form of knowledge check to help validate the learner’s knowledge and self-reflection quizzes to help guide the learners while they take the course.

Add a quote block

The quote block gives some social proof and can enrich the engagement of your course.

Add a list block

Authors can add numbered, bulleted or check boxes lists, which can be easily edited as well.

Add a quiz

To add a quiz, go back to the course title page. Add a title to the page then click on "Add Content" and "Add Quiz". You can also rearrange the order of the pages by dragging and dropping them.

Here you can either add a single choice or a multiple choice quiz. You can also change the format of each quiz by changing the dropdown.

You can add an image or a video to the question type as well as leave hints or comments to the learner to help them complete the quiz.

Quiz settings

You can also add some settings to the quiz to make it as flexible as you like to aid your learners.

  • Passing Score: The percentage of correct answers the learner has to reach before passing the quiz

  • Quiz retries: Allows control on how many times the learner can retake the quiz

  • Include in Lesson Count: This counts the page of the course

  • Require passing score to continue: A setting that restricts the course completion until the score has been passed

  • Reveal correct answers: A setting that shows correct answers when a learner fails a quiz

Preview course

After creating your full course, you can preview it in various modes to see how responsive the course is. Preview in desktop, mobile and tablet mode in portrait and landscape view.

You can further customize the course theme, navigation, and course labels to have your ideal look and feel and to guide your users when completing the course.

You can change the logo, cover image, thumbnail image, colors and font of the theme.

You can also control the settings of the navigation of the course:

  • The course can be a free or restricted course

  • The sidebar can be open, closed or hidden

  • Add previous and next buttons

  • Count the lesson page

You can also translate the course using the course label setting. We already have the default translations in English and Danish.

Export course

After you are done creating the course, exporting it is just as easy. Simply select the format that is compatible with your LMS, then export it. You can choose from SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI formats. The course will download as a zip file on your local computer, which you can then simply upload to your LMS.

Content repository

To reduce time and repetition when creating a course, our authoring tool has a content repository. You can add files under "My Files" and upload images, documents, and media files that can be reused to create other courses.

Statistics

After creating a course and exporting it to your LMS, you can also get a report on the platform about the engagement levels of the course under “Stats”.

Course Updates

If at anytime, you need to make an update to an existing Course you have created in eloomi Authoring, you can make changes to the Course in our authoring tool. This update will then reflect in the SCORM course you have created in eloomi People LMS and a re-export or re-upload will not be required

This guide has given you a quick overview of how you can easily create a course, preview it, export it to your eloomi LMS and view some course statistics on the authoring platform.
