1) What are Categories & Topics?

Categories & Topics allows to structure learning easily. Organize your content and bundle courses together in a category or topic. With Categories and Topics, admins can easily add, edit and remove the prebuilt topic catalogue to match your users’ needs and preferences, while making your platform look organised and engaging.

Categories are used for broader themes (e.g., Security)

Topics are used for specific topics within a category (e.g., IT, Safety, Passwords)

Example:

Security (=Category)

> IT (=Topic)

> Safety (=Topic)

> Passwords (=Topic)

2) How to create Categories & Topics

To create a new category, navigate to Admin > Categories & Topics and click on New. Choose between Category or Topic. A category could for example be Customer Service and a topic could be communication.

3) How to organise courses

After adding Categories & Topics you can start organising your content.

Navigate to Admin > Learning/Courses. Here you have 2 options:

  • Organise existing courses: navigate to the course you want to tag with a specific topic. Click on Edit course and Add topics.

  • Organise new courses: when creating the course, click on edit topics to tag your course with the topic.

After tagging your courses with a specific topics, they will automatically be grouped into the category that the topic is part of.

Coming back to the example from above:

Security (=Category)

> IT (=Topic)

> Safety (=Topic)

> Passwords (=Topic)

If you tag a course with Safety, it will automatically be part of the category Security.

4) Browse your categories

To browse your categories, navigate to Learn. Click on the category you want to browse. On the left side, you can search for a course with a specific topic.
